The Stength of a Nation
Boston\’s Bunker Hill Bridge unites the beauty of simple lines with the strength of concrete and steel and holds the distinction of being the widest cable-stayed bridge in the world. Engineer Christian Menn of Switzerland designed the structure with economy and aesthetics in mind, its strength hidden by the pre-stressed concrete verticals and white support cables painted against the blue Boston sky. At night the structure is illuminated as if to celebrate the ideas of freedom that Americans fought for in the Revolutionary War.
Day 9 Guide
Symbols of our heritage play an important role in upholding our posture as a nation of ideals. The American dream isn\’t built on possessions but rather on a particular philosophy of individual freedom. The beauty of its lines is matched only by the strength to protect it.
